Question about essay mill - Is academic ghostwriting on-topic?
The example you give of the quantum physicist strikes me incomparable. Students are aiming to gain a grade and/or qualification, and passing off a ghost writer's work as their own to gain that qualification would likely be viewed as academic fraud unless declared by the student and allowed by the university. Someone ghost writing for someone else who wishes to sell a book is a completely different scenario in my mind. I completely agree that you, as a writer, or not engaged in anything illegal by providing the service, however.

Speechwriting: on topic or no?
I completely agree with Standback. We recently closed a question asking "How to write a short story?", and this is very similar.

Should this site help with specific writing software questions?
@Monica My take on it is that how to use software is better served by the SuperUser forum. I disagree that it's similar to asking questions about writing in a specific genre. I imagine most writers would have far more interest learning conventions/tips about other genres (even if they don't plan on writing in that field) because it's still about writing, and they may learn something to improve their own writing skills. Furthermore, even writers who don't write in that genre can still give advice because they may read in that genre. The same cannot (IMO) be said about specific software usage.

Is writers.se in risk to fail? What can be done to avoid this?
Can you give some examples of this bias against self-publishing, just so we can see what you're referring to?

Should we allow all typography-related questions?
Putting content up on a web page is also publishing, is it not?

Should we allow grammar/proofreading questions
@Lauren - I agree, and I struggle to pick things out, too. The central problem really is that 99% of the time the problems are things that are completely second nature to most English speakers. "Help me to improve grammar of this question", for example, shows problems with regards to using "a" and "the", but I'd struggle as to how to explain its usage. Other things are more simple e.g. on the other example, I suggested "Facebook page" instead of "Face book" and "website". Interesting exercise tho, since it does show how much these questions are about language, not really about writing.

Agreed, gave my answer below ... +1 for SuperUser, didn't realise it existed.

Round-robin writing events in chat
@justkt - Thanks for the heads up, will do if I need to. Going to try logging out and logging back in to see if that resolves the issue first.
